The power to effect changeThe number of Haitians living abroad (the Diaspora) is increasing faster and faster every day. While this is good for the individuals who have to leave because most of the times they are looking for a better future for their loved ones, the country itself is suffering a lot from this situation. The future of Haiti seems to be outside. In an effort to encourage Haitians living abroad to do something for their mother land, Kenol Aris, PhD, has founded this organization in 2009. Many friends, Haitians and non-Haitians who share the same belief are working very hard to make this dream come true. And because there is so much to do for the country, friends of Haiti regardless of their race, religion or social status and anyone who believes in helping others are also invited to join the organization.
We truly believe that a new Haiti is still possible if we, Haitians, truly want it.
The Haitian Diaspora is divided into 10 regional associations (one for each geographical department of Haiti ).Each association is administered by an International Coordinator assisted by an assistant international coordinator/membership, an assistant international coordinator/project, a secretary, and a treasurer. At the State or Province level, the 10 associations form a Chapter. There will be as many chapters as there are States or Provinces represented in the organization. A Chapter is governed by a regional coordination composed of 10 members, one for each department. The Chapters of a country form a Division, and the Division is governed by a general coordination, composed of 10 members, one for each department. There will be as many Divisions as there are countries represented in the organization. At the international level, the organization is governed by an executive committee that works under the direct supervision of a board of directors.
Our main goal is to gather Haitians living abroad for their participation in the developmental activities of their department of origin. Friends of Haiti may help at different levels or different capacities.
For the past seven years we have helped several hundred needy children with scholarships in Haiti. They live in all ten departments of the country .Our goal is to reach more needy children in an attempt to remove them from the darkness of ignorance. There are so many children on our waiting list that we desperately need your help. Anyone willing to help is strongly encouraged to make a donation of $120 (annual contribution). The annual contribution can be paid in a lump sum or in 2, 3 or even 4 payments. For those who are not able or not willing to contribute $120, they may give whatever they want. There is really no minimum contribution, and any donation will help somehow. Indeed, taking a child from the darkness of ignorance to the light of education is priceless.
